How does TCM Work?

TCM recognizes the vital energy, or Qi, which is the life force that drives all living things. Qi flows through channels or meridians in the body similar to how water flows in a river. Each meridian is associated with an organ system. Twelve primary meridians function in an organized system. Disease occurs with imbalance, resulting in excess or deficient amounts of Qi in the meridians. TCM works to alleviate this imbalance and to restore harmony.

Acupuncture points are specific locations on the meridians and have specific functions. By inserting sterile, disposable pins the thickness of human hairs into these points, one's Qi is regulated toward balance.

Chinese Herbal Formulas also work to restore balance in the body. Each contains 3-15 different herbs in ratios found to eliminate side effects and enhance the desired properties of the herbs. Chinese herbal formulas are used for both acute and chronic conditions, some being taken for only days or as needed and others for several months to help the body help itself.
